Remember that movie with Samuel L. Jackson called Snakes On A Plane? Probably not, but the big dramatic line SLJ says is, "GET THESE MOTHER FUCKING SNAKES OFF THE MOTHER FUCKING PLANE!"
Okay so our drive from Oklahoma to Texas today it was basically a production of this film however instead of snakes it was a fly, and instead of a plane it was my SUV. This frenetic fly entered my car sometime when we were packing up to leave this morning, would hide anytime we stopped and opened doors, and was ridiculously skilled in his response time to any attempts to squash him or let him out a window. Any time we thought he was dead or flew out, we would breathe a big sigh of a relief and then moments later the little audacious fly would come flying at us with vengeance. There was no stopping him. I consider myself a relatively peaceful person and if possible I like to catch bugs and bring them back outside. This fly though? I'd like to see him burnt to a crisp over smoldering hot flames. Josh was the real hero in finally getting him out after a very dramatic couple hours. I believe in Karma, and can't help but wonder what we might have done to deserve this punishment.
The drive was about 5 hours, the boys did relatively well and enjoyed our fly catastrophe, we made a few stops (gas, lunch, and my very first Super Target) and got to Amarillo, Texas this afternoon. We saw a first today! We were somewhere in Oklahoma making our way towards Texas, and for several stretches of miles there were actual cowboys/cowgirls riding horses on a small road parallel with the highway. This is an actual thing! After we settled into the hotel, we swam in the pool, got Buffalo Wild Wings take-out from next door, and are watching Ice Age.
The time I like most every day is when the boys are in their respective beds (we rotate who sleeps with which boy), the lights are off and the room is dark. The boys get into the absolute silliest moods, often running back and forth from one bed to another, and giggling over every little thing anyone says. The good moods they are in for these 15 minutes or so is truly the best part of the day.
Tomorrow we head to New Mexico!
Oh and it was 111 degrees at one point today and I managed to get a sunburn while keeping the windows up all day and the sunroof closed. That takes talent.
