Day Eight

We took a day off from travel today! It was much needed as the boys were increasingly whiny, Josh and I were increasingly irritable, and to be honest, I really needed to wash Teddy's car seat cover because the smell of barf was not fading like I had hoped after my attempts at cleaning it really were successful only for removal of the barf and not for the stench. The good news is, the hotel in Missouri had a washer and dryer and so I was able to get this done no problem. We went to breakfast at Denny's, swam in the pool most of the morning, and spent a couple hours after lunch in the hotel room watching The Bee Movie on Netflix and attempting to get the boys to rest, which you guessed it, was a failure. This afternoon we ventured out to the local mall to walk around and continue with our ongoing judgmental attitudes towards this area of the country. After the mall disappointed us thoroughly (it was hot, boring stores, and like 8 people total walking around), we decided to stick with what we know best and we went down the road to Target. As always, Target did not disappoint. While we were in the car traveling from one place to another we handed a snack bag to Teddy in his freshly washed car seat, at which point he proceeded to dump the full bag of cereal and all the crumbs onto his carseat/floor/lap. At this point the only thing that made sense to do to cope with this was to go on the hunt for an iced coffee. We traveled 15 minutes to find a Dunkin Donuts! It had been 7 days since Josh or I had an iced coffee from DD (only because we had not driven past any!) and I hate to admit it but I felt like a drug addict jonesing for their next fix. As I inhaled my first sip of my medium iced coffee with milk and 4 splenda my body felt a sudden rebirth and I felt alive again. Okay enough of that.

Tonight we got dinner from the hotel restaurant, Josh and I planned our next couple of days of travel, and the boys played with whatever toys they whined about at Target that I gave up and just threw in the carriage so they would be quiet. Our plan was to swim again tonight but the hotel is bumping with some huge family reunion and there's about 40 kids in a pool made for probably 15 people, and ain't nobody got time for that.

Back on the road tomorrow, stay tuned!
